Matt told Lauren he had been 'abducted by aliens' during MAFS

Lauren Huntriss is no longer on our TVs after leaving Married at First Sight and her relationship with Matthew Bennett, but the ups and downs of the experience have remained with her.

In an honest interview this week, Lauren opened up about a rather strange conversation she had with husband Matt ‘off camera’.

“One of those that really stuck in my mind, on more than one occasion he actually said, ‘Loz, I don’t think I fit in on this earth’,” Lauren said during an interview with KIIS FM.

“‘I believe I was abducted by aliens, and they’ve done something to my brain. Because my brain’s been rewired differently; my brain hasn’t been the same since I was 15.’

“And it really concerned me.”

She says she worried about his mental health and his decision to be on a reality TV show like this if he was struggling with anxiety so much.

“Matt would be so crippled with anxiety that 80 per cent of the time we were filming, he would just shut down when things were overwhelming,” she said.

Lauren also spoke about how producers tried to “manipulate” her during filming, which they’ve denied – stating contestants are “in full control of the choices they make”.

In the same interview with KIIS FM, the makeup artist said she “definitely looked like the bad guy in the relationship” between her and Matt.

“I just want to clear this up because firstly, anyone who watches reality TV, surely they understand that it is not real life,” Lauren told Kyle and Jackie O.

“I felt disgusted (when I first saw the edited version), and I was so upset,” she continued, adding, “For them to paint me as this nympho, it was disgusting. I feel so let down.”

In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, an Endemol Shine Australia spokesperson said: “All participants are adults and remain in full control of the choices they make. They choose to apply to be on the show, choose to accept selection, and choose whether or not to continue in the experiment.

“During broadcast, we continue to reach out to every participant, including Lauren. They may choose not to respond to our contact and offers of support, and we respect their decision. But the offer of support remains for each and every participant. This always includes access to our show psychologist.

“Everyone makes their own decision about what they say and do. But, this experiment can be highly emotional and the participants’ reactions can often be unpredictable, even to themselves.”

If you’re experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression contact Beyond Blue or PANDA for support.
