MasterChef viewers call out judge Matt Preston for 'cheating'
Being constantly surrounded by food on MasterChef, it must be difficult not to snag a sneaky taste here and there when you can.
But judge Matt Preston has been scolded by viewers on social media for doing just that on Sunday night’s show.
Contestants were faced with a mystery box challenge where they had one hour to use a loaf of bread as their main ingredient and turn it into something delicious.
Gary Mehigan announced only the “three most appealing dishes” would be tasted by himself and Matt.
However, it seems that memo wasn’t made clear to Matt, because he was happy to chow down on star Jess Liemantara’s Indonesian fried sandwich with a plum sauce well before judging took place.
“I’m loving it,” Matt said as he was eyeing up Jess’ dish. “It’s unlike anything else you’ve cooked before and I think that’s brilliant and I think it’s exciting.
“Should we have a look? Let’s have a look.”
The 54-year-old was then ready to go in for the kill.
“Let’s just taste it together,” he said. “Let’s see.”
Jess cut him a fairly substantial piece, then Matt dipped the fried bread in the plum sauce and took a nice big bite.
However, despite Matt tasting her “delicious” dish early, it wasn’t enough to snag her a spot in the top three to be tasted by both judges.
There were a fair few viewers who took to social media to call out Matt for “cheating”.
Matt!!! Tasting Jess’s dish like that is cheating! #MasterchefAU

Matt beat the system, he couldn't choose between Jess' or Ben's dishes so he tried Jess' beforehand (and played her) 😂😂 #MasterChefAU

We’re sure Matt’s happy he got to taste four dishes.
