Masked man caught on video smashing servo doors in terrifying rampage

Detectives are searching for a masked man caught on camera smashing up a Queensland servo with a digging tool, in an attempted armed robbery.

CCTV shows the barefoot man smashing his way through a glass door and into a Townsville service station, on Tuesday night.

Just before 11pm, the armed man hit the external doors of the Rangeview Street business several times with a mattock before they broke, police said in a statement.

He then smashed glass displays inside the premises before leaving empty handed.

A 21-year-old female service attendant managed to seek refuge in the back office during the rampage and was not physically injured.

The masked man is described as Caucasian and was wearing a skeleton mask, dark coloured long-sleeved hoodie and dark coloured shorts.
