Marlins officially cleared to return to field after coronavirus outbreak
After a bit of worry Tuesday afternoon, the Miami Marlins have reportedly been cleared by MLB to return to action.
Hours before first pitch, the Baltimore Orioles announced the start of their game with the Marlins could be delayed as MLB awaits more test results needed before the Marlins can return to action. But soon enough, word came down that MLB had officially signed off on the Marlins’ return.
The issue? According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, some of the Marlins’ coronavirus tests were inconclusive and had to be run again.
The delay in the Marlins-Orioles game has been resolved, according to a source with direct knowledge. Multiple coronavirus tests for the Marlins came back inconclusive. They were re-run and all came back negative. The Marlins are expected to finally return tonight accordingly.

Nothing is easy in baseball during the coronavirus age, especially getting a team on the field after an entire week off. The Marlins were the first time in MLB to have a coronavirus outbreak hit. By the time the positive tests stopped rolling in, 18 Marlins players had been infected. They’d missed a week’s worth of games, but were scheduled to return Tuesday night in Baltimore for a 7:35 p.m. ET first pitch.
Better safe than sorry — again.
