How man's spring clean made him $1m richer

A man cleaning up his home office has found himself $1.06 million richer after coming across a nine-month-old lottery ticket he’d forgotten to check.

Cornelius Naujoks, from Alberta, Canada, stumbled across the old ticket earlier this month and decided to check the ticket, along with others he’d found, down at his local newsagent.

“I was organising my desk a few weeks ago and found a big stack of lottery tickets,” he told the Edmonton Sun.

“I took them to the store — I couldn’t believe it when I scanned this ticket and all of the zeroes came up on the screen.”

He revealed while he had checked the numbers of the ticket at the time, he’d failed to check the 15 sets of MaxMillions numbers also drawn on the same date as his December 15 ticket.

Mr Naujoks lucky numbers were 3, 10, 25, 26, 33, 39 and 47.

He now plans to buy a brand new house and splash out on an expensive car.

“I would really like to buy a Ford Mustang GT,” he said.

Mr Naujoks isn’t the first to leave it late to collect his winnings – an Australian Powerball winner came forward with just days to spare to collect their cool $55 million prize.
