Man's mistake doubles his lotto win and makes him a millionaire

A Sydney father is $1.3 million richer after a “happy accident” landed him two division one Lotto wins.

The long-time player, from Parramatta, discovered on Tuesday he had accidentally marked two games with the same winning numbers in Monday’s draw.

The fluke doubled his $666,666.67 division one prize to $1,333,333.34.

“I’m in a state of shock!” the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, told NSW Lotteries.

“I’ll be able to pay off my mortgage and I’m able to help my kids. It’s already been spent mate, but all wisely I can assure you.

“It’s so much appreciated.”

The father said he had been buying QuickPick tickets at random for a while, but recently studied the most and least frequently picked numbers and using a combination of those.

“You can’t dream if you don’t have a ticket. So I buy a ticket!

“But it wasn’t deliberate that I had two rows of the same numbers. It was just that I had to mark another line on the ticket, so it’s a very happy accident!”

The winning 18-game entry was purchased at Parramatta CBD Newsagency in Mayfair Mall.

The business’ owner, William Ho, told NSW Lotteries he had been waiting for a division one winner for a long time.

“We’ve been here for 15 years and we’ve never sold a division one.

“It’s such good news. We wish our customer all the best with their double prize.”

Last week, a tradie walked off his job mid-shift after discovering he won Oz Lott’s $50million jackpot.

He didn’t check his ticket for two days, until a quick google search revealed he had the winning numbers.

“I was just at work and heard that the division one prize had not been claimed. So I got my ticket and Googled the numbers and saw that I had all of the winning numbers,” he told NSW Lotteries.

“I still wasn’t sure I’d won, so I called my daughter and asked her to check the numbers and she said to me ‘oh my god dad, I think you’ve won’.”

“As soon as she said that I just walked out from work. I didn’t say anything. I was just thinking: ‘oh my god’.”
