Man's message for would-be car thief after outsmarting him
Two men working at an Adelaide freight business have stopped a would-be car thief in his tracks.
It was a comedy of errors for the suspect, who bungled the robbery attempt at every turn.
Caught red-handed, the wannabe car thief was trapped, his plan outsmarted by two quick-thinking workmates.
“When I came out I realised there was a stranger in the car, so I came up to the car, banging on the glass and trying to open the doors, but he had the car locked from the inside, ” Pete Warner said.
Alerted by strange noises, Pete acted quickly, shutting the gates to his Green Fields yard to thwart an escape.
“He put [the car] in reverse, backed up into the garden, hit the fence,” Pete said.
“He was bogged in the garden trying to get out, spinning the wheels and revving the engine.”
That’s when workmate Ben Diete jumped in, using his four-wheel drive to corner the man, who was allegedly armed with a knife.

“He just climbed out of the window, ran along the roof of the car, tried to jump over the fence and got stuck in the barbed wire,” Ben said.
“Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny.”
Desperate, the would-be car thief climbed back into the car, driving forwards and hitting Ben’s car.
Ben then pushed hum back into the garden with his four-wheel drive.
When police arrived the man refused to get out of the car – until police showed him they had a Taser, after which he quickly gave himself up.
Pete has a message for the bungling thief: “Get a job and buy your own.”
The 36-year-old would-be thief is now facing multiple charges.
