Man’s 'horrific act' before fleeing restaurant in Porsche

A 51-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly spiking his date’s drink as she used a restaurant bathroom.

Tariq Nawaz, 51, dined with an unnamed woman at the eatery in Mississauga, Canada, on October 21, Peel Regional Police said.

After the woman left to go to the bathroom, police allege a waitress saw Nawaz spike her drink.

The waitress told the woman about the alleged incident.

Police claim Nawaz then fled the restaurant in his 2016 Porsche with personalised number plates.

Peel Regional Police have since arrested Nawaz and charged him with administering a noxious substance and breach of recognisance.

Nawaz has since been released, though he is set to appear in court on January 8.

Investigators believe there may be more victims who have come into contact with Nawaz.

Earlier this year, Mel Hall, who goes by ‘renaissancewomanhood’ on social media spoke to Yahoo News Australia after one of her TikTok’s about how to prevent getting your drink spiked went viral.

Ms Hall, who is Canadian, showed how you can used coasters at a venue to shield your drink, while she also practiced putting a corn kernel in a drink to demonstrate how easy it is for a drink to be spiked.

While you may often hear lots of anecdotal reports of drink spiking, it’s hard to pin-point how prevalent the issue is in Australia, Melinda Lucas from Australia’s Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) previously told Yahoo News Australia.

Drink spiking is illegal in every state and territory in Australia. The act is defined as adding more alcohol to someone’s drink, or spiking it with any drug, without that person’s knowledge.
