Detectives want help to identify a man after a couple were attacked in a Snowy Mountains town three days ago.
The NSW pair, a 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, visitors to the area, were walking along the main road of Jindabyne after leaving a licensed premises at 1.30am on Thursday when they were assaulted by a group of unknown men.
The man was knocked unconscious after being punched in the head, while the woman was physically and sexually assaulted by one of the men.
When the man regained consciousness and tried to intervene, he was struck again. He finally managed to flag down a passing car at which time the men fled. Both also suffered serious facial injuries.
The man police want to talk to has been described as about 180m tall, solidly built and wearing a light-coloured, baggy, hooded jumper at the time.
Detective Acting Superintendent Tom Barnes, commander of the NSW Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, also appealed for anyone who was driving in the area early on Thursday morning to check their dashcam footage.
