'I was scared': Little girl's heroic actions that saved woman's life during dog attack

A young girl has described the moment she jumped in to rescue an elderly woman who was having an asthma attack when her dog was set upon by a bull terrier.

Dianne Isgar, 75, believes if it was not for a group of children who rushed to her aid earlier this week she would have died at Frasers Landing park in Mandurah, 65km south of Perth, in Western Australia.

Shaliah, 9, dashed to Ms Isgar’s car to retrieve her asthma puffer as two of her friends stayed with the grandmother and her injured dog, Bonny.

“She gave me her keys and I got her puffer from the car,” the nine-year-old told Yahoo News Australia.

Ms Isgar was suffering from a severe asthma attack and was hapless as her dog lay heavily wounded.

“My friends stayed with [Ms Isgar] making sure she was alright.”

Shaliah’s friend Zara grabbed the leash and tended to Bonny.

She said while they knew they needed to help, the proximity of the bull terrier which was yanked away by its owner only heightened the girls’ fears.

“I was scared of the big dog,” Shaliah admitted.

She said the dog owner disappeared soon after from the park.

After several breaths of her inhaler, Ms Isgar regained her composure and rushed Bonny to the vet.

Remarkably, the silky terrier-cross avoided serious injury and is on the road to recovery.

Shaliah’s grandmother Glenda Miller told Yahoo News Australia their family was filled with pride over the quick-thinking actions of the girls.

“It made me very proud to see,” she said.

“It’s nice to know they can act when they’re called upon.”

Previously Ms Isgar said she planned to meet the children in person to thank them for their efforts, offering them a small reward as a sign of her appreciation.
