A man has won $4 million after receiving a lottery ticket as a gift.
Christopher Voelker, a tree surgeon from the small town of Raynham, won the US$2.97 million jackpot prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Megabucks Doubler drawn on May 26.
Mr Voelker was given the multi-week lottery ticket as a gift.
He claimed the massive prize on July 9, for a one time cash payment of US$2,277,443, after tax. Mr Voelker plans to use his fortune to buy a home.
The store where the ticket was purchased will also receive a slice of the winnings. Plymouth Liquors, a bottle shop in Plymouth, will earn a US$29,700 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
