Man freed from car after NSW head-on smash

A young man has escaped serious injury after being trapped in his car following a head-on smash with a truck in the NSW Northern Tablelands.

Police and emergency services swarmed to the New England Highway, about 25km south of Uralla, after the two vehicles collided around 3.15pm on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old was finally freed and flown to Tamworth Hospital with a broken arm and ankle and injured knee, while the two people travelling in the truck were treated by paramedics.
