Man takes bullet to save pregnant girlfriend’s life

An Adelaide man who was accidentally shot in the stomach took a bullet to save the life of his pregnant girlfriend.

According to his parents, 21-year-old Evan is a hero, with his emotional father calling him “the bravest man I know.”

Evan had to undergo major surgery after being struck by a bullet that had allegedly been fired from an home-made Uzi-style gun at a relative’s house.

The alleged gunman is facing a raft of charges, including manufacturing firearms.

“The guy put the clip in it and was pointing it towards my son and his girlfriend,” Evan’s father said.

“To protect his girlfriend, he stepped in front and took the shot.”

The bullet went into his stomach, then lodged in his hip.

The young victim has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition with no life-threatening injuries.

“He’s doing ok, I guess,” Evan’s father said. “He’s in a lot of pain.”

Last night police surrounded a house in Salisbury North and arrested two men.
