Man who survived 9/11 killed in different terror attack

A man who died in the Nairobi terror attack on Tuesday had previously survived the September 11 attacks, his brother revealed.

Jason Spindler, 40, was chief executive of investment firm I-Dev International and a survivor of the September 11 attacks, according to his brother Jonathan, who posted a message on Facebook.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that my brother Jason Spindler passed away this morning during a terror attack in Nairobi, Kenya. Jason was a survivor of 9-11 and a fighter. I am sure he gave them hell!” he wrote.

Mr Spindler had lived in Kenya for about five years and also served with the US Peace Corps in Peru.

“Know you are mountain climbing with the angels tonight, Jason. You lived fully and beautifully, but you left us far too soon,” one Facebook friend wrote.

Mr Spindler’s father Joseph said his son worked in the DusitD2 complex, the site of the attack, and often ate at a cafe in the luxury hotel targeted by the gunmen.

His father said his son grew up in Houston, graduated from the University of Texas and was enjoying a successful career on Wall Street when he decided that he wanted to develop a model for helping low-income people.

Mr Spindler entered the Peace Corps and lived in Peru, where he developed sustainable business models for rural residents.

His father says he worked with international companies to form business partnerships in Kenya that would boost local economies.

Mr Spindler would have turned 41 next Tuesday.

At least 21 people died in the Nairobi terror attack and more than 700 had to be evacuated from the site.
