Man speeds off in Nissan ute after $36,000 necklace heist
Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a man caught on video making off from a Melbourne shopping centre with a gold necklace worth a small fortune.
On April 7, at about 10am, the man walked into a jewellery store at a shopping centre in Werribee and asked to see the expensive piece of jewellery.
The piece the man asked to see was a 9-carat gold 55cm necklace valued at $36,000.
The man then quickly left the store without paying for the item, police allege.
Police say he drove away in a black Nissan Navara, which allegedly displayed false registration plates.
In a video shared by Victoria Police on Wednesday, a man police wish to speak to is seen wearing a fluorescent orange jacket, khaki pants and black Nike shoes.
He is seen running through the shopping centre's exit and through the carpark before the black Nissan ute is seen taking off.
The man is described as being Caucasian, about 170cm tall. He has short dark hair and a medium build. He was wearing glasses and a face mask that obscured his face at the time.
Victoria Police is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers or submit a confidential report online.
