A man is in a serious condition after being shot in Sydney's south in what police believe was a targeted attack.
Emergency services were called to Knoll Avenue in Turrella following reports of shots being fired on Wednesday morning.
A 37-year-old man - understood to be a well-known local businessman - was found outside a house with several gunshot wounds to his torso and legs and was taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
Chief Inspector Chris Hill said police are calling for anyone who was in the area at the time or has information about the attack to come forward.
"(We are) very concerned; it's horrific and that's why we need the community to come forward. Whatever information they have that can help progress these investigations will be very warmly received," he told reporters on Wednesday.
"Any public place shooting is horrific, they shouldn't occur."
Insp Hill said investigations have so far led police to believe the attack was targeted but at this stage, officers don't know who the attacker was.
The only information they have is that a dark coloured sedan was seen leaving the area on Wednesday morning.
