Girl, 13, watches helplessly as dad dies after being shot during home invasion

A man has been shot dead and a second man attacked with a hammer during a home invasion south of Brisbane.

Police said the 48-year-old was shot in the leg and died at the Gleneagle home near Beaudesert just before 6am on Monday while a second man, 40, is in a stable condition after being hit on the head with a hammer.

Police are hunting a black, new model, Holden Commodore utility with no registration plates that was seen leaving the address and last seen travelling on the Mount Lindesay Highway.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia they are searching for multiple suspects but were unable confirm how many.

Police Inspector Jim Plowman told reporters on Monday that the deceased male’s 13-year-old daughter was present in the home at the time of the shooting.

It is not clear whether the teen witnessed the shooting but she was present as paramedics tended to the man’s injuries, Inspector Plowman said.

“Paramedics were working very hard to try and keep him alive. There was significant blood loss so she’s got the trauma of that to deal with,” he told Nine News.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle in the vicinity of Brittany Court before 6am to come forward.

Anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV is also urged to come forward.
