Man shot after allegedly ram-raiding police vehicle

A man has been taken to hospital with injuries after he was shot during a confrontation with police in Perth’s south-east.

The shooting occurred after police spotted an allegedly stolen Subaru Impreza parked in the driveway of a Seville Grove home at 11am on Thursday morning.

The man allegedly reversed into a police vehicle that had pulled in behind it, WA Police said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

A passenger in the car fled on foot while the driver allegedly continued to ram into the police vehicle.

“During this time the driver of the police car discharged his weapon which resulted in a man in his 30s receiving a gunshot wound to his shoulder,” WA Police.

“Police administered first aid and St John Ambulance attended, conveying the man to hospital for treatment.”

The injured man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The incident unfolded near a school, Cecil Andrews College.

Students were moved to a “safe space” within the school and a text message was sent to parents assuring them that their children were not in any danger, The West Australian reports.

“An incident has occurred outside of school,” the message read.

“Police are involved, no threat to students. Firetail Court Seville Grove closed.”

Officers from the Homicide Squad and Internal Affairs are now investigating the incident.

WA Police would not confirm that the man was allegedly shot in front of his teenage children.
