Man reveals how he won two jackpots from same Lotto draw

A Queensland man has won nearly $2 million from Lotto after mistakenly buying two division one entries.

The man, a Sunshine Coast resident aged in his 40s, used his favourite numbers for Saturday’s Gold Lotto, according to The Lott.

He found out he won over the weekend but was oblivious to the fact he accidentally bought two division one entries with the same numbers.

So, when Monday rolled around and he received a phone call from lottery officials, he discovered he hadn’t won just $990,000 – he’d actually won twice that amount. In total, he pocketed more than $1.98m.

“Holy f***! Two?! Two? Oh my God. I’ve got double that win?” he said.

“So I’ve got more than $1.98 million? Mate, you’re kidding me, you are kidding me!

“This is f****** intense! Today, you‘ve changed my life man!”

The man explained he “accidentally doubled up” and bought two tickets. He’s done it a few times now.

He added he’s superstitious and has been using his “favourite numbers” for “a long time”.

The Sunshine Coast resident plans on helping his parents and is re-considering his employment status.

“Will I quit my job? This is a distinct possibility!” he said.

“This just puts us ahead of the game.”

The winning numbers were 10, 34, 6, 40, 37 and 3, while the supplementary numbers were 15 and 18.

The Queenslander isn’t the only proof of good things coming in twos.

Last month, a semi-retired Victorian man thought his wife was joking when she revealed his numbers had won the $4.1 million division one Lotto prize.

The man, from Narre Warren South, in Melbourne’s southeast, who held the only division one winning ticket in Saturday’s draw, said the win was too good to be true.

It was the second time he had won a division one Lotto prize, but the man says he has no plans of quitting work.

In August, a retired Scottish couple were winners of a $102m jackpot but accidentally ripped up their ticket and threw it away after a shop assistant told them they hadn’t won.

Thankfully, an automated message on the lottery terminal at their local Aberdeenshire shop told them to keep hold of the ticket and call operator Camelot.

Fred and Lesley fished the ticket out of the bin and took it home where Fred checked the numbers and found that he was a winner.
