A man who allegedly bashed his partner in the head with a saucepan has been denied bail.

The 51-year-old man, who cannot be named, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday on one count of contravening a domestic violence order over the alleged incident at Spring Hill in inner city Brisbane on Friday.

It's alleged the man was drunk when he went to his partner's unit and attacked her while she slept.

The court heard he punched the woman then used a water container to hit her before bashing her in the head with a saucepan, which he then threw at another occupant at the unit.

The victim suffered cuts to her head and was found by police moaning in a foetal position on the floor, the court heard.

The man was arrested outside the unit complex.

Police opposed bail, arguing the man had a lengthy history of domestic violence, other assaults and breaches of court orders.

Magistrate Anthony Gett ruled the man was an "unacceptable risk" of reoffending and refused bail.

The matter was adjourned until May 2 where he is expected to plead guilty.
