Man makes sick discovery in can of Coles peaches

An Aussie man claims to have found a syringe in a half-eaten can of peaches he bought from Coles.

Dave Mcell purchased the $3 Gold Reef peach halves in syrup from Greenwood Village in Perth and had been eating them with Weet-Bix every day for the last two weeks before noticing the syringe plunger on Sunday.

"I saw the top of it and thought what's that little white thing and found the whole plunger sitting there," Mr Mcell told 9 News Perth.

Mr Mcell said the shocking find floating in the 825g can has prompted concerns for his health.

"I'd like to have a blood test and see if there’s anything untoward," he said.

He also called for the product to be removed from store shelves and said he will be sticking to pears rather than peaches for the meantime.

Coles said the syringe may have been a piece of equipment from a factory in South Africa, which is where the ingredients are sourced from, 9 News reported.

They also said this was an isolated incident, as they had never had an issues with this supplier, and will be conducting a thorough investigation.

“We apologise to the customer for their experience," a Coles spokesperson said.

"We’re taking this very seriously and will be investigating with out supplier.”

Social media users react to the Gold Reef incident

People took to Facebook to share their thoughts on the sick discovery, and some weren't quite convinced, alleging the Perth man was after his "2 minutes of fame".

"I find this sooo hard to believe he would have noticed syringe straight away," one person said.

"(Eating) every day for 2 weeks but still had half a can?? Something doesn't add up," another said.

Though there were others who believed him and thought the incident was "disgusting".

"Poor customer," one said.

"Sorry..this product should not be on our shelves," said another.

Mr Mcell said he went to Coles to complain on Sunday when he found the syringe, and was asked to fill out an incident report.

"They wanted to take the can off me, but I didn’t want to so I still have proof," he told the local publication.
