Man killed while rushing to save teen from rape

A man who was trying to rescue his teenage niece from being sexually assaulted has been shot and killed in Chicago.

The 66-year-old man heard screams coming from the 17 year old’s bedroom about 9pm on Thursday (local time).

After rushing in to her room, he was confronted by a man who reportedly climbed through the teen’s window before sexually assaulting her.

The attacker allegedly shot the man in the head and back before feeling he scene.

According to NBC, the 66-year-old man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Centre.

The teenage girl was taken to Trinity Hospital in a stabile condition.

Police said a "possible offender" was taken into custody by responding officers but as of Friday (local time) no charges had been laid.
