Man jailed for 'horrific' attack on woman - police
A man who choked and attacked a vulnerable young woman, leaving her with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone, has been jailed.
Craig Barker, 41, attacked the woman in Wakefield on 17 February 2023, leaving her requiring a plate and screws fitted to her face during hospital treatment, police said.
Barker, of no fixed abode, was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal strangulation and breaching a restraining order.
At Leeds Crown Court, he was jailed for eight years with two further years on licence.
Det Con Mandy Geary, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This was a particularly horrific attack against a vulnerable young woman.
“Violent attacks like this cannot be tolerated - everyone has their part to play in challenging behaviour and informing authorities about violence, sexual violence, controlling or coercive behaviour or harassment."
The officer added: “If anyone has been the victim of an offence or has concerns for someone they know then I would urge them to report it."
