Man jailed after chainsaw road rage rampage
A man who armed himself with a chainsaw and went on a road rage rampage in Sydney’s west has been jailed for at least a year.
A Magistrate on Monday said Alaa El Zien’s attack caused “terror in Fairfield” in April and prison was the only appropriate punishment.
Terrifying footage shows El Zien pulling the chainsaw from his ute in front of screaming bystanders following a brutal road rage attack caught on dashcam.
He can be seen throwing punch after punch at another driver who had briefly blocked his path.
“I can’t even imagine the fear and trepidation of those in the community … chainsaw, the mere word brings fear,” Magistrate Peter Bugden said.
El Zien’s lawyers asked for a good behaviour bond at Fairfield Local Court, however their request was refused after he “caused terror on the streets of Fairfield”.
El Zien’s 16-month sentence means he will miss the birth of his first child and he won’t be eligible for parole for at least a year.

His lawyer immediately launched an appeal, however bail was still refused with the magistrate saying it was one of the worst cases of affray he’d ever come across.
El Zien’s lawyers plan to appeal the decision, which will be heard later this month.
