Man injured in NSW gyrocopter crash

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after his gyrocopter crashed as it attempted to take off from an airport in central western NSW.

Emergency services freed the 69-year-old from the cockpit of the rotorcraft on Tuesday afternoon inside the grounds of Dubbo Regional Airport.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition, suffering possible leg and internal injuries, with police told the gyrocopter experienced difficulties as it attempted to take off and impacted heavily near the runway.
