Police in Sydney's southwest are on the hunt for two men who allegedly knocked on a man's door and assaulted him when he answered it.

The 28-year-old man escaped after the initial attack in Claymore on Saturday night and fled to a neighbour's home, police say.

But the attackers allegedly followed him, forced their way into the neighbour's home and assaulted him again.

The man, who police say may have been the victim of a targeted attack, is in a stable condition in hospital with facial injuries.
