Man injured in drive-by shooting outside Melbourne nightclub

A man has been injured in a shooting outside a nightclub in Melbourne, with half a dozen shotgun casings found several blocks away.

The shooting took place around 5.30am on Saturday morning at Grey Street near Chapel Street at Prahran, in Melbourne's inner suburbs.

A man was shot and he was taken to The Alfred Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting happened close to Chasers Nightclub, where an African multicultural event had been held that night.

A club spokesman said the event finished and the club was closed at 4.30am.

There was no violence or issues during the event, the spokesman told AAP.

Investigators have been told a car drove past a Chapel Street night club when the shooting occurred, police said.

The shotgun casings were found in nearby Garden Street, with most of that road now closed off.

A man, who lives in an apartment near the crime scene, told The Herald Sun he was woken by “about four shots”.

“I think I heard someone say ‘I told you he had a gun’,” he told the paper.

“There was a lot of commotion.”

Two men were killed in a drive by shooting outside the Love Machine nightclub in Prahran in 2019.
