A Queensland man who was killed in a hit and run following a dispute at a Gold Coast home was in the wrong place at the wrong time, police say.
The 50-year-old became involved in a disturbance in Rio Vista Boulevard, Broadbeach Waters, early on Boxing Day and was run over by a car leaving the scene at 1.25am.
Detective Acting Inspector Greg Aubort said paramedics treated the victim but he later died.
"We know a group of people attended that address, at least two men and possibly more," he said.
The men, aged about 20, were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered, but Det Aurbort said the nature of the incident was still under investigation.
Several weapons were found at the scene but there was no evidence of guns being used, he said.
Det Aurbort said there was a "gathering" at the address, but wouldn't say if the 50-year-old was inside before the disturbance.
"There's no evidence to suggest he was involved in the lead-up to this incident, it may be a case of the wrong place, wrong time," he said.
The man was run over after the argument spilled into the street and the offenders fled in a car.
