A Victorian man found dead at Hobart's waterfront was involved in a fight at a pub the night he went missing, police say.
Jarrod Davies' body was found on Tuesday by police divers in water near Elizabeth Street Pier after he went missing in the early hours of Sunday.
The 27-year-old, who was on a trip to the state with his dad, was at the Observatory Bar earlier in the night.
Police allege Mr Davies was involved in an altercation with a Tasmanian man, 28, who was on Friday charged with common assault and will appear in court in March.
There is a "separation" between the events surrounding the alleged assault and Mr Davies' last known movements, police say.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
