A man who was shot dead has been found in the back of a ute in northern NSW after a woman flagged down emergency services.
Homicide squad detectives said authorities were responding to a report of a crash outside a Dundurrabin home on Thursday afternoon when the woman flagged them down.
“The body of a man was located in the rear tray of the utility,” NSW Police said in a statement on Friday, adding the 40-year-old victim had suffered a gunshot wound to his torso.
Police later located two cars which had crashed outside the home. They believe the crash and the shooting are related.
They are also searching for a firearm after locating ammunition.
The 37-year-old woman who flagged down police was arrested but subsequently released pending further inquiries. She knew the man, detectives said.
A crime scene was established at an Armidale Road home which is being forensically examined.
Police are calling for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or crash to contact them.
