Man flies to stranger's bachelor weekend after receiving invite by mistake

A man has attended a bachelor party after receiving the email invite by mistake.

William Novak, 35, of Arizona got the email on January 7 about the ski weekend on the other side of the US for a man named Angelo Onello.

He didn’t know the person but the party with its over-the-top invitation sounded like a good time so he emailed back as a joke to say he was in.

The 35-year-old received the email due to a mix-up – the email was meant to be sent to another man also named William Novak, news station WCAX 3 reported.

Mr Novak didn’t expect a response but partygoers from New Jersey and New York agreed that he should join the fun.

“When they wrote back and they were like ‘if you’re serious, we’re serious, get here’ I was blown away,” Mr Novak said.

“I just started cracking up laughing. I was like ‘oh my gosh, these guys seem insane’.”

Mr Onello’s brother Devin said the response “started as a joke” but ended up as a “good mistake”.

Mr Novak, a father of a 10-month-old, started a GoFundMe page to raise more than AUD$1040 for his 3500km trip to a Vermont ski resort for the buck’s party.

He told WCAX 3 any leftover money will be given to Mr Onello and his future wife.

The party organisers said the weekend will be tough on his liver.

Mr Novak told them he’s not much of a drinker but that he could be the designated driver.

He also offered to bring Sudoku puzzles and a Nintendo Switch.

Others offered to pitch in, with one company offering Hawaiian shirts for the occasion, a Vermont bar providing locally made beer, and a tattoo artist offering to make matching tattoos.

Mr Novak declined the tattoo offer.

When Mr Novak learned Mr Onello and his fiancée are expecting a baby, a friend of his made a baby blanket.

“I’m just the sort of person who tries to be open to things,” Mr Novak said.

The groom-to-be told WCAX 3 he enjoyed his bachelor party. The group were pictured in retro ’80s ski gear.
