A man described by police as dangerous has fled Wollongong Hospital after being arrested for firearm and assault offences.
Jason Rees, 43, was arrested on Thursday afternoon and while in police custody was taken to the hospital for assessment.
Despite being in handcuffs, he managed to escape from officers about 6pm.
Police said the dog squad conducted an "extensive" search but no trace of Rees was found.

"Jason Rees is considered dangerous," police said in a statement.
"Anyone who sights him should not approach him but contact triple zero immediately."
The 43-year-old was described as Caucasian, weighing 70 to 80kg and with short light brown hair and blue eyes.
At the time of the escape, he was wearing a Sydney Roosters football jersey.
Rees also has a number of tattoos, including a Southern Cross on his neck, a scorpion on his left leg and a skull on his right upper arm.
