Man's warning after sitting on needles embedded in train seat

A man has discovered about 20 needles embedded in a train seat after they punctured his thigh.

The alarming discovery was made during his morning commute on a Metro Train in Melbourne on Tuesday.

“Had a lovely surprise this morning when I sat on a seat with around 20 needles sticking out of it,” commuter Anthony Artusa wrote on Twitter.

The needles had been buried in the cushion and the passenger could not see them as he sat down.

Metro Trains is investigating with officers scouring CCTV footage of the carriage to find the person or people responsible.

It comes just days after the latest needle scare in Melbourne involving a bag of grapes and follows the nation-wide needle contamination of strawberries last year.

Police are also investigating but believe it is an isolated incident.

They are urging passengers to take all necessary precautions and anybody who saw anything should report the incident to police.
