A desperate search is underway for a man who was reportedly grabbed by a crocodile near Cooktown in Far North Queensland.

A fisherman is feared dead after being attacked by a crocodile at a popular fishing spot in Far North Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the Annan River Bridge at approximately 2.10pm, following reports the NSW man, 40, had been taken by a crocodile.

Queensland Police confirmed an operation was underway at the Annan River Bridge near Cooktown earlier in the afternoon.

Initial investigations indicate the man had been fishing on the riverbank, when he fell into the water and failed to resurface.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said paramedics and emergency services had been deployed to the scene searching for the man.

Queensland Police will be working alongside the Department of Environment and Science (DES) Wildlife Officers, who are assisting with the search.

Investigations are ongoing, a police spokeswoman said.
