Man fatally stabbed 'had no idea he was injured'

A man who was fatally stabbed in Melbourne’s southeast initially had no idea he’d been injured, a witness says.

A convenience worker who saw the assault told 3AW radio the victim in his 20s was standing up immediately after the attack.

“Only after I told him that he was bleeding, the adrenaline faded away or something then he realised and he collapsed,” the witness, named only as Igor, said.

Police believe an argument broke out among a group of men on Linden Place in Doveton at about 9.20pm on Thursday, leading to the youth being stabbed with an “edged weapon”.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Homicide detectives are trying to piece together what happened and are yet to make any arrests.

A strip of shops on Linden Place remains a designated crime scene.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers in 1800 333 000.
