A man who killed three passengers including his brother in a high-speed car crash had been affected by methamphetamine at the time.

Matthew John Conduit, aged 25 when the crash occurred in December 2015, had been emotional earlier that day, drank alcohol and smoked ice after learning he would lose his job because his employer was bankrupt, the District Court of WA heard on Tuesday.

Conduit, who changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on Monday, wept in court as details were read out about the crash in Perth in which the car reached speeds of 180km/h.
