Man drowns after falling from wheelchair

A man has died after he fell from his wheelchair and was found face down in water in Victoria's east.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner after the 57-year-old drowned at Western Boat Harbour Esplanade at Lakes Entrance, where it is believed he fell from his wheelchair into water about 8.30pm on Sunday.

The man lived on a boat and used an assistance crane to get on and off the vessel, the local ABC reported.

When he was found, the crane was activated and his wheelchair was empty, according to police.

Police are not treating the man's death as suspicious.
