A man has died after an inner-Sydney unit block went up in flames resulting in almost a dozen residents being evacuated.
Some six fire trucks raced to the Newtown blaze about 6am on Tuesday with a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman saying the roof and ceiling of the two-storey block had collapsed.
"Officers evacuated several people from the premises however the body of a man was discovered in one of the units," NSW Police later said in a statement.
The man is yet to be formally identified.
A crime scene was established with the cause of the fire unknown at this stage.
