Traffic chaos near Sydney Airport as man dies in horror crash
A serious crash that has left one person dead near Sydney Airport has led to traffic chaos on Friday morning.
Traffic is backed up for several kilometres, helicopter footage from Channel Nine’s Today shows, after southbound lanes were closed following the collision in the Airport Tunnel in Mascot, in the city’s south.
Emergency services were called to General Holmes Drive about 6.45am after reports two cars and a truck collided in the southbound lane before the M5 turnoff.
One man has died and a woman treated for minor injuries at the scene, NSW Police said.
The truck driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries, NSW Ambulance confirmed.
Traffic remains heavy in both directions, Live Traffic Sydney said on Twitter.
The man’s death was one of two on Sydney roads on Friday, with another in Prestons where a man died after a crash between a car and motorcycle.
“One loss of life on our roads is never acceptable, but two deaths on our roads in under an hour – is utterly devastating,” NSW Ambulance Inspector John Brotherhood said.
