Man dies in freezing snow after vanishing in Victoria's ski fields

A man has died overnight after going missing while skiing in Victoria’s snow fields.

Three emergency service units were dispatched, including the air ambulance, to Granite Track Road in Mitta Mitta, near Falls Creek on Thursday evening, The Age reported.

Ambulance Victoria received a call for help at 5.30pm, a spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia.

Crews then trudged through difficult and snowy terrain as they battled to find him.

Victoria Police said it was still confirming details surrounding the incident.

The area is on the edge of the Alpine National Park which is bordered by other popular ski spots including Mount Beauty and Falls Creek.

Hundreds of people have converged on the snow fields with ski season in the peak of its busy period.
