Man dies in 'freak accident' while playing golf

A man has been killed in a freak accident on a golf course on NSW's south coast.

The man, aged in his 50s, was playing with three others on a course in Mollymook when he was struck on the head by a falling tree branch.

The other men were uninjured and assisted him until emergency services arrived.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man but he died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Faye Stockman described it as a “freak accident” and commended the man’s friends for their quick thinking.

"Bystanders did a courageous job commencing CPR on the patient until paramedics arrived," she said in a statement.

"Unfortunately the man suffered a significant head injury and went into traumatic cardiac arrest and died at the scene."

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
