Man dies after two children swept out to sea at NSW beach

A man has died and two children have been swept off rocks on the NSW south coast.

Emergency services were called to Woonona Beach, off Kurraba Road, about 5.40pm (AEDT) on Saturday after reports several people were washed into the ocean, NSW Police said.

Wollongong police officers were told two children were playing in the water when they were swept into the sea.

“Bystanders used jet skis and surfboards [to] help the children back to shore; however, a man believed to be aged in his 40s was pulled unconscious from the water,” police said.

NSW Ambulance paramedics tried to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.
