Man devastated to find out he couldn't have fathered his three children

A man who raised three sons as his own for 21 years was shocked to discover he had actually been infertile since birth.

Richard Mason, co-founder of moneysupermarket.com, discovered the children weren’t actually his when doctors diagnosed him with cystic fibrosis two years ago at Liverpool’s Broadgreen Hospital.

The disease prevents male sufferers from having children and the Mirror reports that DNA tests have confirmed Mr Mason’s worst fears.

Following the shock discovery, his former wife Kate was ordered to pay $446,000 for her deceit.

The Mirror reports Mr Mason, from North Wales, believes the 23-year-old and 19-year-old twins were fathered by a man his ex-wife was having a four-year affair with in the 1990s.

But he will never know for sure as the court allowed his ex-wife to keep the father’s identity a secret.

He told the Mirror the discovery left his life in tatters.

“You don’t know what’s real and what isn’t – it’s as if I’m living in The Matrix,” he said.

Mr Mason only found out about his ex-wife’s affair 10 years after their divorce in 2016 when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
