Man who had deadly liver disease walks daughter down the aisle
A very special gift has allowed a proud father of the bride to give his daughter away.
Six months ago, 59-year-old Kevin Wright, from Melbourne, was desperately ill and in need of a liver transplant.
He thought the chance to walk his daughter down the aisle was an experience he may never get to have.
It was life-or-death for Mr Wright after his health seriously deteriorated in June.
But thanks to a life-saving liver transplant after six years of battling liver disease, his dream came true.
“It’s just fantastic,” Mr Wright said.
“I honestly didn’t think I was going to make this day.”
New Year’s Eve is a special day for his youngest daughter, Bec.
She met her partner, Matt, on a New Year’s Eve and also got engaged on a New Year’s Eve – so it made perfect sense for them to also tie the knot on December 31.
Now, she and her family are thankful for her father’s second chance at life.
“We’ve been given this amazing gift,” Kevin’s wife Jenny said.
“It’s made all the difference to our lives. We’ve got everything to look forward to.”
“It really was life or death for Dad,” Bec added.
“You don’t need your organs when you’re gone, so why not give them to someone else?”
Now, Kevin has a very simple New Year’s resolution: “To live life to the fullest and get back to what I used to be.”
