Man dead and second critical after gyrocopter crash in NSW

A man has died and a pilot is in a critical condition after a light aircraft crash in the NSW Hunter Valley.

NSW Rural Fire Brigade crews found a crashed gyrocopter at Goorangoola, near Singleton, after 1pm on Sunday.

A 40-year-old man, who was a passenger, died at the scene.

The 46-year-old pilot was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

There were no other passengers on board.

Darlington fire crews said the crash triggered a small grass fire.

The Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association and Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified of the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
