A man has died after a stabbing in Etobicoke Thursday morning, police say.

The incident happened around 6:04 a.m. in the area of Lake Shore Boulevard W. and Islington Avenue.

In posts on X, formerly Twitter, investigators said they received reports of an altercation between a group of people in the area.

One person was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Speaking at the scene Thursday, Duty Insp. Dan Pravica told reporters that police believe a second male also suffered stab wounds in the incident.

"We are concerned for that individual as he has not made himself known to us. We do not believe that he has attended a local hospital or sought any medical help," he said.

"We are hoping to locate this person and help him get the medical help it is alleged that he needs."

Pravica could not say exactly how many people were involved, except that it was "more than two." No weapon has been recovered, no one is in custody, and police do not yet have an idea what led to the altercation, he said.

Police are asking any witnesses or people with security camera footage of the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

Investigators are reporting road closures in the area and asking people to consider alternate routes.
