Man dead, another facing impaired driving charges after car collision in Verdun

A man is dead and another is facing impaired driving charges following a car crash in Montreal's Verdun borough Friday night.

Police responded to a call about a collision on Bannantyne Street around 7:30 p.m.

According to initial reports, police say the 55-year-old victim was driving northbound on Richard Street when his car was struck by a pickup truck travelling east on Bannantyne Street.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 30-year-old man, was arrested for impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and will remain in custody until his court appearance, which is expected later Saturday.
