Man dead after he was 'ran over while lying injured in the road'

A man has died after being run over by two vehicles on the NSW South Coast, police believe.

Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway near Comberton Grange Road at Falls Creek just after 5am on Saturday morning, following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a truck.

When officers attached to South Coast Police District and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene just south of Nowra, a man aged in his 50s was declared deceased.

In a statement, NSW Police said the man was yet to be formally identified.

A driver of an Isuzu Pantech truck was taken to the nearby Shoalhaven Hospital for mandatory testing and a crime scene has been set up.

Police said initial inquiries suggest the man was struck by a second vehicle while he was lying on the road, injured.

The second vehicle has been described as a light-coloured SUV and police are conducting inquiries in an attempt to locate the vehicle and speak with the driver.

Specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit will examine the scene.

Northbound lanes remain closed, NSW Police said and local traffic diversions are in place.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area or delay travel plans.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward and for people with any dashcam footage to turn it over.
