Manchester City kick off their 2020/21 Champions League journey with a home clash against FC Porto on Wednesday evening.

While Pep Guardiola has largely dominated the Premier League since arriving in Manchester in 2016, the European Cup is the one trophy to have eluded him so far in England.

Last season's tournament seemed a golden opportunity for City to finally go all the way, but Guardiola got his tactics wrong as they were dumped out of Uefa's unique finals tournament by Lyon.

Guardiola has taken responsibility is wants to make amends for City's stumbles in Europe so far, and their first Group C fixtures pits them against a plucky Porto side who could cause an injury-weakened side problems.

Date, time and venue

Man City vs FC Porto is scheduled for a 8pm BST kick-off on Wednesday, October 21.

The match will be behind closed doors at Etihad Stadium with no fans due to be present due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

How to watch

TV channel: The match will be televised on BT Sport 3, with coverage starting from 19:15pm.

Live stream: BT Sport subscribers will be able to watch the match online via the video player and the BT Sport app.

Team news

City were without Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Aymeric Laporte and Benjamin Mendy for Saturday's 1-0 win over Arsenal, but Guardiola said the situation was slowly improving.

"Oleksandr Zinchenko is back and other players are back," he said. "Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo are in good condition. We expect Benjamin Mendy back soon so the team will grow."

Without Laporte, summer signings Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias started alongside each other in City's defence at the weekend and put in an impressive display as Dias earned his manager's praise.

Prediction: Man City 2-1 Porto

Though City are facing injury issues and still finding finding their feet regarding tactics, Guardiola's men should have enough about them to squeeze out a win - as evidenced by the tactical masterclass against Arsenal last weekend.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

The sides have met twice before in Europe, with City seeing off Porto 6-1 in the Europa League round-of-32 back in February 2012. City won 2-1 in Portugal and then cantered to a 4-0 victory back in Manchester.
