A man has been charged after allegedly killing a woman known to him at a Queensland home in early September, marking the 59th Australian woman killed this year to predominantly male violence.

It will be alleged emergency services were called to a Clump Road home in Palm Island about 9am on September 1 after reports a woman had suffered a life-threatening head injury.

The 29-year-old was flown to Townsville University Hospital, however she died two days later on September 3 as a result of her injuries.

An investigation was launched, and police have confirmed they charged a 36-year-old male allegedly known to the woman with murder (domestic violence offence) on September 16.

The 36-year-old was remanded in custody and is set to front the Townsville Magistrates Court on November 5.

The alleged murder marks the 59th woman lost to predominantly male violence this year, according to Sherele Moody’s femicide watch.

“On September 1, a loved and respected 39-year-old Indigenous woman was beaten at Palm Island, Qld,” Ms Moody’s latest Instagram post read.

“She is the 59th Australian woman killed this year. The woman was a mum, a force to be reckoned with, respected, widely adored and so-so loved.

“Her alleged killer has taken away everything precious to her family.”
